Last week at daycare we did "personalized stories" as a theme. Every day, just like in Kindergarten, a different child is the star. For the last two weeks, the star had a story written for them, starring them. It was even more of a success than I thought it would be. All the kids were glowing, beaming, and so proud! I took the thing they loved best and incorporated it into a children's story. I loved this theme for I got to do what I love to do (writing children's stories) and I made the kids happy (and who doesn't like that?). For instance, I wrote one for R, titled "R and Lovesy" (Lovesy is her special stuffed animal that she sleeps with), and another one was "M's new friend" for M who finds a lost kitten in the story. I wrote one for B entitled "B's magic glasses" and Megan got "Megan meets Thumbelina" (because she loves Thumbelina). Since Austen loves cows he got "Austen and Blue Cow's Adventure" and J got "J goes to a Sens game" because he loves Daniel Alfredsson. L got "L's wild ride" in which he goes sledding and L2 got "SuperL saves the day". B and J got "B and J's Snowmobile Adventure" and Mason got a story about counting Cheerios. Finally, J got "J and the Stanley Cup". I laminated the title pages and bound all the stories. I loved doing the stories both for the kids and myself. I hope they think of the stories as a treasured keepsake. It was such an inexpensive thing to do for all the kids coloured each page. (I had downloaded colouring pages for each page). Now it is on to our new theme: Easter and huge paper mache eggs!
