A regular day (in photos)

DIY sidewalk chalk paint!

No, the dishsoap bottle doesn't have dish soap in it...it's DIY sidewalk chalk paint in there.

FIRST HAIR CUT!!

Megan hasn't been feeling well lately and her skin is so dry so I've put her on a rehydration regime for a few days, complete with egg timer and all.  She doesn't like it but too bad...she's got to get hydrated. She has a lot of tummy aches lately so we're hopeful that this will help.

Reunion and Post-Reunion Party

Our reunion was a success!  Everyone had so much fun (I think, anyway).  Here some pics from the day!

The kids played "World Traveler" (see previous post before this one on how to play).

Here they are colouring in their passports.

Grandpa was Ethan's babysitter...Ethan enjoyed sitting with the men :)

Here the kids are partaking in the Netherlands' game...riding a tricycle.  It was the only picture I got as I was "customs" and I was too busy stamping everyone's passports once they finished a game.

Here our "Minute To Win It" game!  Ian hosted and I was his "Vanna White" hahaha...

We had everyone divided into either the blue team or the red team.  Points awarded were 1 point for finishing within 60 seconds and an extra 1 point was awarded if you finished first.  Zero points if you didn't complete the task.

Here's some of the games. Go to www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to  for details on how to play each game.

So yes, the red team won.  I was blue.  The winning team got to eat first.

After eating we played some other games and had dessert.  Prizes were given out for people who traveled the furthest, whose anniversary was closest, closest birthday, person wearing the most red, etc.  We all had lots of fun!

The next day we hosted the post-reunion party at our house (after church) since we are the only ones in the area with a pool and a large enough house/yard.  Our pool hadn't seen that many people in it EVER but it was great weather...perfect for a swim and a BBQ.

How many people can we fit in our teeny-tiny hot tub? :)

We had a great weekend but we're tired.  Today we're relaxing, cleaning up, snacking on leftovers, and watching the Olympics...

While watching the Men's synchronized 10 m platform, Mason remarked the following:

"Why are they wearing diapers?"

...he saw the speedos...

And yesterday, while watching the women's diving,
 he said,
"they're all mommies, you know."

To which Austen replied,

"Some of them are just girls."

It certainly is fun to watch the Olympics with our kids...especially since they're so interested.

Wasn't the opening ceremony beautiful?  I loved when they lit the cauldron at the  end...so beautiful.

Have a wonderful day!

Reunion Games

We are in charge of games for our family reunion (which occurs once every 3 years on Ian's side of the family).

We're doing some kids games called "World Traveler" (I explained this in another blog post).  They get their own little passports and colour in their "photo", fill in their details, and then they "travel" to different countries to participate in a game there.  Upon completion, they get a stamp and after getting all the stamps in their passports, they win a prize.

For CANADA the kids have to go HUNTING...since that's what we do in Canada :)  They use a watergun to shoot pingpong balls off tees, positioned in a piece of foam.

See the CUSTOMS ('Douane' for those who speak Dutch) sign on the corner?  Well, that's for the table in the center...the place they have to go get their stamps upon completion of a game.

For USA, the kids play BASEBALL...They use a baseball bat to hit a baseball into the field and then run around the bases.  Simple, but doable for young and 'old'.

For the NETHERLANDS, the have to BIKE (since biking is what the Dutch do!).  The kids will get on a tricycle and bike around pylons, from start to finish.

For ENGLAND they have to play SOCCER...simply kick a soccerball into the net to score a goal.

For SWITZERLAND they climb MT. EVEREST...or, climb the playstructure and slide down the mountain (slide down the slide).

And for GERMANY they walk on the BERLIN WALL...or balance on a 2x4 beam, from one end to the other.

After they do all that, they get a stamp behind their country in their passport (a colourful sticker), and then get one of these for their prize:

Fun!

Hopefully...

Anyhow, we're going to play a great game with the rest of the families too...one in which the adults and the kids can participate or not...they can watch or do the game...whatever...

They will get divided into 2 teams (red and blue) and then we will get volunteers to come participate in the games.  The game?

If you're not familiar with this gameshow, you can go on www.nbc.com and check it out.  Basically, you use basic household items to complete a task in 60 seconds.  If you succeed, you move on to the next level.

Now, we've adapted it a bit to suit a large group and more participants.  We'll have 2 teams competing so instead of using the 60 second time-limit, we'll see who wins and that team gets a point on their scoreboard:

You can check out how to play each of these games on the NBC website but here are some of our favourites:

Junk In the Trunk
Wiggle a box that is attached to your waist filled with ping-pong balls until the box is empty.

2) When the clock starts, player may begin moving body to shake the ping-pong balls out.
3) Player's hands or arms may not touch the box or belt.
4) Player may only touch the floor with his or her feet.
5) To complete the game, player must get all 8 ping-pong balls out of the box within the 60-second time limit.
REQUIRED ITEMS
8 ping-pong balls
1 empty tissue box
1 belt

Face the Cookie
Using only the face, move cookies from the forehead to the mouth.

INSTRUCTIONS
When the clock starts, player may grab the first cookie and place it on the forehead.
The cookie must remain in contact with the face (i.e. player may not toss the cookie from the forehead and catch it in the mouth).
If a cookie falls, player may reset an intact cookie on the forehead for the next attempt.
To complete the game, the player must hold an intact cookie 3 times with his or her mouth within the 60-second time limit.
REQUIRED ITEMS
At least 3 cookies

Paper Dragon
Player must un-spool 2 rolls of party streamers using only their hands and arms.

INSTRUCTIONS
Set up the streamer rolls at the player's feet with the player holding 1 end of 1 streamer roll in each hand.
When the clock starts, player may begin unspooling the streamers. Player may not kick, throw, or grab the spool directly.
If the spool breaks, the player may pick up the end of it and continue.
To complete the game, both rolls of streamers must be unspooled and off the ground within the 60-second time limit.
REQUIRED ITEMS
2 rolls of streamers

Do You Hear What I Hear?
Place boxes with different quantities of jingle bells inside in the correct order.

INSTRUCTIONS
Prior to game start place jingle bells in boxes in increments of 5, from 5 to 35, and seal.
Jumble the boxes and place them in the center of the play area.
When the clock starts, the player must use their sense of sound and judge the weight of the boxes to put them in the correct order.
To complete the game, place the boxes in order from 5 to 35 jingle bells within the 60-second time limit.
REQUIRED ITEMS
140 jingle bells
7 boxes with lids

We have tons more and hopefully I'll be able to take some videos or photos during the games so that I can share them!  They're sure to be entertaining to watch though!
