Father's Day

We had a busy weekend last weekend but made it home to celebrate Fathers Day.  The kids made Ian all sorts of great gifts.  Here they are!

From school:
Austen wrote "The Best Things About My Dad" and made the Best Dad handprints.  Mason made the white shirt card and the rock beside it.  Megan made him a shirt card too.  All so personal and so cute.

Ethan and I made Ian a huge card with all sorts of candy bars on it....I'm sure you've seen those float around Pinterest.  The kids (with my help) coloured rocks....we heated rocks in the oven, then used crayons to paint them.  Such a fun activity.  The only thing is that the rocks were super hot and I kept reminding the kids not to touch the rocks.  One person got burned by accidentally touching the rock.  Me.  Of course.  We wrote words with permanent marker on the rocks to describe Daddy.  We also took the DAD photos (similar to Mothers Day).

The DAD photos.

And, finally, we always make Daddy a book.  Every single Fathers Day we have, since Megan was born.  We have them all shelved up high and like to pull them all down to read and remember.  Anyhow, this was the first year that the kids really helped create their own book for Ian.  In the past, I took more of a leadership role in the creation of the Fathers Day book but this year, I really let them show their creativity and take an active role in completing it.
I took almost all the photos of Ian with the kids that I have on my camera roll and printed them out.  I laid them all out on the table and the kids got to pick whatever photos they wanted and made scrapbooking pages with them.  They could make as many or as little as they wanted.  As it turned out, they all wanted to make many and the project lasted several hours on the morning of the PA Day.
Here the results!

That was our Father's Day!  I will blog next about what else we did Father's Day weekend - a quick trip across the province (well, almost...more like a 7 hour drive) to attend my sister's bridal shower!
