Happy 5th Birthday, Mason!

Mason turned 5 (!) on Friday.  He asked, after a lot of other interesting requests, for a construction site cake.  We googled some cakes and he decided on one that looked similar to this one.  It was a very fun cake to make and one of the easier ones I've had to make lately.  He loved it and watched the whole thing come together the day before.

Time to sing!  The birthday sparkler ( in the number 5 shape) made it appear as if there really was construction going on on his cake!

Such a happy expression.  (See our little photo bomber in the corner hahaha)

He got to choose (as soon as he got up):  Presents first or breakfast first?  Dumb question, mom.

He always opened the cards first.  Very carefully.  He also "read" each card too.  Very cute.

"Hey, sis, help me read, will you?"

Very similar to his personality, he sloooooowly opened each gift, opening each side, one by one, as if preserving the paper.

He loved the gift from his godparents too...a rocket!  (They've been playing with it all morning...setting it off in the living room...so funny).

After breakfast, he played with his gifts and then we met my mom for a swim at the indoor pool.  He loved it and had a great time.  Afterwards, we came back for cake.

Then, we met everyone at a restaurant for a birthday supper.  More gifts!

Two desserts!  Ice cream and a birthday cake from the waitress who sang to him.

He brought a treat for the kids in his class.  Since Mason doesn't care for cake very much but loves pickles, we opted for a more healthy treat since that's what Mason loves:  pickles, cheese, and kolbasa.  He was so proud to share his 3 favourite foods with his friends,

He also had a small birthday party with the daycare.  I made some smiley face cake pops (in his favourite colour - yellow!).

We played a bunch of games:  non-elimination musical chairs, treasure hunt, Lego-candy building, and a fun candy race game with some leftover Easter things.  They loved all games, especially this last one.

A few months ago, Mason had asked for a very specific birthday cake...a gold, 3 tiered cake with a Christmas tree and santas sleigh and reindeer on top.  He wanted a pickle made out of icing (not fondant, mommy, cause I don't like fondant) and a big number 4 on top (even though he was turning 5).  I pointed the latter out to him and then he changed that to a big 5 on top.  He even drew a picture....

Mason's big sis made such a lovely gift for her little brother.  She built and painted a fire station for him.  She did it with such a kind and loving heart, thinking about everything he loves, and trying to keep it a secret from him.

Happy Birthday, my loving, kind, independent, friendly, funny, unique son.  You complete our family with your wonderful personality and we love you so much!
